What happens when you put a bunch of sysadmins in a boat and tell them to row?
Well, we’re about to find out.
UPDATE: We had an incredible time at the York Dragon Boat Challenge! Check out some photos from the day:
We competed in three heats and only came last… twice! Sadly that meant we didn’t progress to the grand final, but we did raise over £2,000 for the RNLI and the event’s nominated charities: Door 84 Centre for Youth and Martin House Hospice. For full results, check out the official website.
Thank you to everyone who came along, helped crew the good ship BYTE ARK or joined us in our birthday celebrations.
Remember, you can still help save more lives at sea by sponsoring a random BYTE ARK crew member now!
This Sunday 12 July is Bytemark’s birthday and we’re literally pushing the boat out by taking part in the 12th Annual York Dragon Boat Challenge!
We’ll be battling an amazing 35 other teams for the Challenge Trophy and other awards, including the “Best Dressed Team” and the “Tailenders Award” for the slowest time.
Our own 20-strong team will crew the “BYTE ARK”, raising money for the RNLI – the charity that saves lives at sea along with the event’s own nominated charities: the Door 84 Centre for Youth and Martin House Hospice.
It promises to be a brilliant, if slightly wacky way to mark our birthday. We’re hoping to raise over £1,500 for our nominated charities and you can help.
Since our team will take part in multiple heats throughout the day, we’d love it if anyone wanted to get on board and help us out. Join the motley crew of the BYTE ARK – get in touch now: firstname.lastname@example.org.
All we ask is that you raise at least £50 – and, to make it even easier, anyone who joins the crew will get 1-month “discount” on their hosting with us that we will donate to your fundraising total (up to a maximum of £100).
And, of course, we’ll be very happy to keep you well-stocked on the day with rum, Vimto or perhaps even both! We’re expecting to have quite the party, as you can see in the video below by organisers, the York Rotary Club.
If you can’t make it on the day (or perhaps being on the water doesn’t appeal to you?) then sponsor us directly instead using the link above. Thanks for your support!
